About Me

Syed Mehmood, MD, performs open heart surgery as a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon at Willis-Knighton Health System with Red River Cardiovascular Surgeons.   

Dr. Mehmood is one of very few surgeons in Shreveport-Bossier City who have experience in the specialized surgeries he has performed at leading medical centers across the United States. After a residency in general surgery at Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center, Dr. Mehmood completed a fellowship in thoracic surgery at Ohio State University Medical Center and a second fellowship in cardiac surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. 

He performs video assisted thoracic and vascular surgery, and is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. 

Dr. Mehmood appreciates both the art and science of repairing and rebuilding the heart, arteries and veins.  He combines his medical and surgical training with years of experience to help people’s hearts work well.
