William P. Sanders, MD

William P. Sanders, MD, is a family medicine physician who cares for patients of every age and stage of life at Willis Knighton Primary Care Ruston on Northpointe Lane. His work includes preventive care, chronic disease management, acute illnesses and long-term wellness planning. He says he enjoys helping patients understand their health and make decisions that fit their goals, values and daily lives.

A native of Homer, Dr. Sanders earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston and a Doctor of Medicine degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler. 

He said he chose medicine as a career because he’s “always been drawn to meaningful work that allows me to walk alongside people through important moments in their lives. Family medicine gives me the privilege of building long-term relationships and helping people move toward healthier, more intentional living. I believe we are all here to live a life of service to others, and that has always remained a driving principle in my life.”

Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine since 2009, he spent 15 years practicing family medicine at the Green Clinic before joining Allegiance Health management. He serves the community as a physician at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. He has also served as medical director of Premier Hospice and Bienville Family Clinic and as primary care and sports medicine provider for the Athletics Department at Louisiana Tech. 

Dr. Sanders says he is grateful to practice medicine in the same community where he raised his family. “Caring for people here feels like caring for family,” he says.

He is married and has three children “who keep life full and meaningful.” He enjoys spending time with friends and family and being outdoors, in the woods or on the water. He also enjoys time spent teaching and building faith through connection groups at First Ruston. “I value anything that blends beauty, purpose and family connection.”
