About Me
Wyche T. Coleman, III, MD, joined WK Eye Institute after completing medical school and ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-Shreveport. Dr. Coleman prides himself in delivering strong, ethical and thorough patient care in eye disease and surgery. Growing up the son of a rural family practitioner, Dr. Coleman has stayed true to his roots by spending a portion of his week seeing patients in Coushatta, Mansfield, and Many, Louisiana. His areas of emphasis include premium intraocular lens/ cataract surgery, custom LASIK, custom PRK, refractive lens exchange and general eye care for patients with diabetes, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Dr. Coleman uses the latest state of the art surgical techniques in cataract and intraocular lens implant surgery. He was the second surgeon in Louisiana certified to perform laser cataract surgery using the LenSx system. Only available at WK Eye Surgery center, the LenSx system allows true blade free precision that is unattainable using standard methods.
In partnership with Dr. Chris Shelby, Dr. Coleman recently developed a mobile eye imaging device, allowing physicians and veterinarians to take and transmit retinal photos using Apple’s iPhone. This first of its kind technology is licensed to medical equipment giant Welch-Allyn and is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the United States.
In addition to being passionate about eye care, Dr. Coleman is also a pilot who operates a flight school and aviation maintenance shop at Shreveport Downtown airport. He has been married since 2011 and spends much of his spare time with his wife and at the airport.
