Astha Joshi, MD

Astha Joshi, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician specializing in hospital medicine at Willis Knighton Pierremont. As a hospitalist, she cares for adult patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions, including infections, pneumonia, heart failure, COPD, diabetes, kidney disease and gastrointestinal conditions. She also coordinates care with specialists and helps patients and their families understand their diagnoses and treatment plans throughout their hospital stay.

A native of Kathmandu, Nepal, Joshi said she developed an early appreciation for the meaningful difference physicians can make in people’s lives. “I was drawn to medicine because it combines science, lifelong learning, problem-solving and the opportunity to help people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives,” she said. “That sense of purpose continues to motivate me in my work today.”

She earned a Medical Doctorate at Nepal Medical College in Kathmandu in 2014 and completed a residency in internal medicine at MedStar Health in Baltimore in 2020. She said her journey “has allowed me to experience different cultures and healthcare systems and has shaped the way I connect with patients and families from many different backgrounds.”

Joshi is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

When she’s away from work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two young children. They enjoy traveling, playing tennis, playing the keyboard, exploring new places and finding activities to do together as a family. She also enjoys staying active, cooking and spending time with friends.
