About Me
Nurse practitioner Chandra Walker-Target specializes in mental health at The Center for Mental Wellness, 1111 Line Ave. in Shreveport. She says she enjoys “meeting people from all aspects of life experiencing mental challenges. To see a patient use the knowledge that I equipped them with to better manage their symptoms is so rewarding.”
The Shreveport native was inspired to pursue a career in healthcare by her mother. “She experienced some disparities in her younger life, and I wanted to see if I could change that for other patients,” she says.
She started out at Willis Knighton as a surgical technologist more than 25 years ago and proceeded to earn Associate, Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing degrees at Northwestern State University in Shreveport. She is certified as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
When she’s not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family. She and her husband, Pastor Billy R. Target, have four sons and four grandchildren. She is an active member at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Grove and enjoys learning and teaching others. She is furthering her education at Louisiana State University to serve her patients better in all aspects of care.
