Dr. Antonio R. Pizarro, MD

Antonio Pizarro, MD, demonstrates empathy and clinical competence as he empowers women to make decisions about the medical care they deserve to improve their quality of life. His practice is dedicated to caring for women who need anything from a well woman exam to managing pelvic floor disorders to robotic surgery.  

Dr. Pizarro has called Shreveport home since 1983. After he graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana, he studied for eight years at LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport to complete medical school and residency training in obstetrics and gynecology. The next three years he did fellowship training in urogynecology, robotics and pelvic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. There he gained experience in the conservative and surgical management of urinary incontinence, advanced gynecologic laparoscopy and robotics, management of complex gynecologic conditions, and female pelvic reconstruction.

Dr. Pizarro has specialized training and extensive experience in laparoscopic-robotic hysterectomy, endometrial ablation for heavy periods, repair of pelvic relaxation, mesh-free robotic colpopexy, surgical and conservative management for urinary incontinence, and other complex conditions that might require surgery.  

He was one of the first specialists in the world to gain board certification in both female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (urogynecology), and obstetrics and gynecology, by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Pizarro is the first and most experienced fellowship-trained urogynecologist in the Ark-La-Tex.
