About Me

Proud to carry on the family tradition of his father and uncles, Dr. Swearingen is part of a family of ophthalmologists. A Shreveport native, he earned a degree in zoology from LSU and his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport where he also served a residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Swearingen then became a partner in the Swearingen Eye Clinic, was founded by his father and his uncle.

In 2010, Dr. Swearingen joined WK Eye Institute where he practices comprehensive ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Swearingen and his wife, Joanne, have been married for over 30 years. She is a certified optician and manages, Optical Zone, an optical dispensary. They have four children: Joseph, a captain in the Marine Corps; Susan who works in the fashion industry in New York City; Sarie, a pre-school teacher in Nashville, and John Paul, a senior at LSU.
