About Me
Dr. Michael Megaly, MD, MS, FACC, FSCAI, aspires to make a difference and improve life for patients with complex coronary artery disease. He specializes in treating patients with 100 percent blockage (chronic total occlusion, or CTO) with less invasive catheter-based interventions. Medical interventions provided by Dr. Megaly successfully relieve chest pain for heart patients whose disease complexity limits their treatment options.
Extensive medical training for Dr. Megaly began at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt (MD), immediately followed by a Master of Science (MS) in surgery and a residency training in general surgery at the same medical center. His subsequent training included three fellowships at Minneapolis Heart Institute and Hennepin Healthcare for cardiology, University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix for interventional cardiology, and Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit for high-risk coronary interventions.
As the holder of multiple American Board of Internal Medicine certifications (internal medicine, interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease) and professional fellowships, Dr. Megaly shares his CTO knowledge as the author of more than 150 academic papers and many book chapters. Many cardiovascular journals include Dr. Megaly as an associate board member, editor and peer reviewer. Cardiovascular conferences regularly invite him to speak as a faculty member and an expert panelist. He uses his influence to advance the practice of interventional cardiology and save lives worldwide.
Dr. Megaly’s care philosophy is to maximize the role of medicine to rescue people with acute heart emergencies and to help patients live longer, healthier and more independent lives.
He breaks away from the clinic and research to enjoy a good movie with his wife or to work out and lift weights.
