About Me

The satisfaction of seeing patients’ health improve is one of the reasons Taeyong Choi, MD, chose to specialize in transplant surgery. Practicing at the John C. McDonald Regional Transplant Center at Willis-Knighton and WK Advanced Surgery Center, he provides surgical services that are frequently life-saving. Dr. Choi is happy to share his expert medical opinion when patients have questions since he firmly respects their freedom to make their own medical decisions.

A naturalized citizen of the USA, Dr. Choi completed 14 years of training with two general surgery residencies and two fellowship trainings in South Korea and the United States. He graduated from medical school at Chung-Ang University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, followed by a clinical internship and general surgery residency at the same location. His first fellowship was in pancreas-biliary surgery at Ajou University Hospital also in South Korea.

Dr. Choi served a residency in general surgery at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, followed by a second fellowship in abdominal transplant at Ochsner Multi-Organ Transplant Institute in New Orleans. He is certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and has certified fellowship training recognized by the American Society of Transplant Surgery.

Dr. Choi and his wife make their home in Shreveport. They have two grown daughters and a family dog. Away from the surgical suite, Dr. Choi enjoys hiking and travel. He also relaxes playing drums, woodworking, or enjoying a “Rocky” movie or documentary film.
