About Me
Before she started studying medicine, Miriam Estes Hankins, MD, was a ballet dancer who enjoyed a short career in New York City, working as a ballet and modern dance teacher and a Pilates instructor. Her first job in healthcare was as an EKG technician at Willis Knighton.
Today she is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Regional Perinatal Group – Shreveport, located at Willis Knighton South. She cares for women with high-risk pregnancies and complex maternal or fetal conditions, including hypertension, diabetes and clotting disorders, as well as pregnancies complicated by fetal growth abnormalities, genetic conditions, birth defects and multiple gestations.
She also provides specialized prenatal imaging and counseling and works closely with patients and their obstetric and pediatric teams to develop individualized care plans.
Dr. Hankins said she chose a career in healthcare “because it combines science, lifelong learning and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. I was particularly drawn to obstetrics because pregnancy is such an important and transformative time for patients and their families.”
At LSU-Shreveport, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemical sciences in 2012 and a Master of Science in biological sciences in 2014. She completed her Medical Doctorate at LSU School of Medicine in 2019. At LSU Health Shreveport, she focused on obstetrics and gynecology and completed an internship in 2020 and a residency in 2023. She also completed a fellowship (maternal fetal medicine) at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2026.
She and her husband, Luke, have four children. They enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors and staying active. They also enjoy doing activities in the community and staying involved at their church.
